Chemainus

Chemainus, BC is located in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. It is a small, waterfront community popular for outdoor murals, performing arts and recreation.

The community is well known for two attractions - the Chemainus Murals and the Chemainus Theatre. Two venues which attract many to the community every year, all year.

The village is a sightseeing destination all in itself. There is a upper downtown section and an older lower downtown section. The streets are decorated with giant murals. hanging flower pots, gardens, blooming trees, wood and stone carvings and statues.

Most of the services important to travelers are available in Chemainus. There are services like restaurants, banks, accommodations, campgrounds, tours, grocery stores, gas stations, art galleries, gift shops, internet, coffee shops and a post office.

When exploring the village one will notice yellow footprints painted on the sidewalks. These footprints lead all visitors to over 41 murals scattered about town. In the centre of the village is a dinner theatre. A local venue serving food and providing entertainment year round.

Activities enjoyed in the community include boating, golfing, cycling, sailing, fishing, scuba diving, swimming, sightseeing, sea kayaking, canoeing and hiking. Waterwheel Park is the main park in the community. It overlooks the harbour and provides some great marine views.

Chemainus is also a gateway to Thetis Island. At the end of Oak Street is a BC Ferry Terminal transporting travelers to the island.
