Courtenay BC is a waterfront community located in the Comox Valley in British Columbia, Canada. The community is the main commercial hub in the valley serving north-central Vancouver island.

Courtenay is situated on the northwest banks of the Comox Harbour otherwise known as the Courtenay River Estuary. It is a wonderful area for birdwatching and walking paths.

Further inland from Comox Harbour the Courtenay River connects up with the Puntledge and Tsolum Rivers near Lewis Park. Lewis Park enjoys large grass fields, Totem Poles and a playground with spray park.

The mountain and ocean scenery in the community is excellent. The two landmarks dominating the western skyline include Mount Washington and the Comox Glacier. Mount Washington is a ski destination and the Comox Glacier is a sightseeing tour. To the east the scenery follows the the low and high tides of the Courtenay River Estuary.

The Air Park located in the estuary enjoys a paved walking trail, viewing benches and lookout platforms providing good marine views. Exploring the park is an excellent way to view the the coastline of the community. It is a popular destination for birdwatching, walking, roller blading and sightseeing.

The community of Courtenay has many services important to travelers. There are retail stores, restaurants, artist galleries, tour & guide companies, banks, big box stores, coffee shops, museums, internet, laundromats, theatre, gas stations, grocery stores, campgrounds and many accommodations.

The Comox Valley is a year round recreation destination. During the summer the activities include hiking, birdwatching, golfing, backpacking, kayaking, wind surfing, scuba diving, boating, sailing, canoeing, rock climbing, mountain biking, fishing, cycling, wilderness camping, horseback riding, beachcombing, picnicking, swimming, birdwatching and wildlife watching.

During the winter months seasons change and snow covers the mountains at the higher elevations. The peaks and alpine meadows attract many to the region for some snow recreation. Some of the activities enjoyed in the Comox Valley mountains include skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing.

The largest park on Vancouver Island - Strathcona Park - is located west of the community of Courtenay. The park is a year round recreation destination for the Comox Valley and Vancouver Island.
