Duncan, Cowichan Valley, BC Canada: A
vibrant community in the Cowichan Valley, rich in First
Nation history, resting on the shores of the mighty Cowichan
River and Kokisilah River with Mount Prevost, Mount Tzouhalem,
the Coastal BC Mountains and the Malahat Mountain looming,
far off in the distance.
The Town of Duncan
is considered the commercial hub in the Cowichan Valley
with a good selection of accommodations, restaurants,
banks, grocery stores, retail shops, pubs, gas stations
and service companies to assist visitors. The revitalized
downtown is pedestrian friendly with plenty of shopping
and restaurants plus a chance to view some First Nation
Totem Poles, the Railway Station and some downtown murals.
It is the outlying areas of Duncan
- in the mountains, by the rivers and exploring the little
ocean villages is something special. Places like Genoa
Bay and Maple Bay - marina villages hidden in the coves
located out on the end of a long Arbutus tree-lined road
visiting marinas, pubs and/or restaurants. It is where
the ocean scenery comes alive.
Northeast of Duncan is Crofton Village.
A small village with a beautiful waterfront pier iceak
for marine scenery and activity. Nearby, is the forestry
mill which is the largest employer in the valley.
