Ladysmith

The community of Ladysmith, BC is located on the 49th Parallel on the northern outskirts of the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

The Ladysmith area includes the backcountry regions of Yellow Point and South Cedar. The entire region is a wilderness combination of forests, sandy beaches, mountains, lakes and ocean shoreline.

The community of Ladysmith is situated on the shores of Ladysmith Harbour. Transfer Beach Park is the popular activity destination located on the waterfront of the harbour. It is a sandy beach park popular for kayaking, sightseeing, swimming, birdwatching, special events and picnicking.

Some of the outdoor activities enjoyed most in Ladysmith include hiking, golfing, birdwatching, sailing, fishing, boating, kayaking, scuba diving and swimming.

In the forest behind the village are a few hiking trails which lead to waterfalls, lakes and viewpoints. The Holland Creek Trail explores a forest leading to a waterfall, dam and parks. The Heart Lake Trail climbs up a mountain leading to a remote lake and some long reaching views overlooking the community, Cedar and the harbour.

The shops and stores in the village centre follow along the highway and First Avenue (main street Ladysmith). First Avenue has both, historic and new buildings. Some of the buildings are decorated in pastel colours while others are modern day. Both sides of the street are lined with flowers and historic artifacts.

The services available in the community that are important to travelers include accommodations, gas stations, grocery stores, banks, post office, restaurants, tours and a laundromat.
