The village of Ladysmith BC is centred around one of the finest
fully serviced public beach parks on Vancouver Island called Transfer
Beach. A popular gathering place for locals and visitors
because of the many activities and amenities onsite. Not only
is the beach covered in fine sand, driftwood, shells and rocks
- there are many viewing benches lining the coastline. An ideal
setting for people watching and bird watching for the likes of
Bald Eagles, Blue Herons, ravens and seagulls.
Transfer Beach Park has everything for everyone.
There is an excellent children's water park and connecting playground
with swings, slides and lots of room. Down the hill peering out
at the ocean s a concession stand with ice cream, food and beverage.
Not far in a separate building are the washrooms and change rooms.
Clean ones too. For the older child in all of us there is a basketball
hoop, sand volleyball courts, kayak rentals and plenty of grass
area for frisbee, tanning, reading a book or playing bocce ball.
The sprawling grassy area of Transfer Beach Park
in Ladysmith has many viewing benches, picnic tables (some in
shade, some not), a picnic shelter and lots of ocean views. Although
many visitors to the park decide to bring their own chairs or
blankets and pick a piece of beach or grassy area closer to the
horizon so to enjoy the views.
The open-air theatre type area of Transfer Beach,
where the flags are flying, is the location every year to a Ladysmith
Lumberjack Competition. The two wooden tree poles reaching for
the sky are used for climbing by the lumberjack participants entered
in the competition. The park is also a favourite location for
car shows and festivals like Paddlefest and many others.
Nearby is the Waterfront Walking
Trail through trees, rocky beaches and up along a ridge passing
by boats, a marina and a log sort mill.
How to Get to Transfer
