Vancouver Island Parks

Vancouver Island Parks and Trails
British Columbia, Canada

Vancouver Island on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada is home to many National, Provincial, Regional, Municipal and Community Parks, as well as, many BC Forestry Recreation Sites. There are oceanfront, lakefront, rainforest and mountain parks. Off the coastline of Vancouver Island there are  marine parks protecting islands and wildlife. Many parks on Vancouver Island protect endangered wildlife species.

Each community listed on this tourism website includes information on the parks near or in that community. Each park listed includes descriptive text, photos, recreational activities and directions on how to get to the park. Below are some quick links to parks:

The National and Provincial Parks tend to be bigger and provide more services. They are generally well maintained parks with each park including varying amount of services. Some include campgrounds, power, showers, washrooms, picnic shelters, boat launches and amphitheatres. Some are created to protect sensitive eco systems and include hiking trails and/ or sandy beaches. All Provincial and National campgrounds charge camping fees and are under government supervision.

There are wilderness forestry recreation sites on Vancouver Island managed by the BC Forestry Service. These parks are remote and are accessed via a network of gravel roads. All recreation sites are located in wilderness locations and in some cases accessed only by 4x4s. Forestry sites provide few services. The services they do provide include pit toilets, picnic tables and boat launches (some roof top, some paved). Most recreation sites are free of charge, but not all. They are user maintained parks in many cases.

Some of the activities enjoyed in Vancouver Island parks include hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, wildlife watching, picnicking, sightseeing, birdwatching, wilderness camping, kayaking, scuba diving, boating, sailing, swimming, wind surfing, fishing and more.

Have Fun !!
