Vancouver Island Elk Falls Provincial ParkElk Falls Provincial Park on north central Vancouver Island near Campbell River is a popular destination for fisherman and for waterfall enthusiasts and hiking adventurers. The Provincial Park has a maze of hiking trails located along the Campbell River and Quinsam River including a short trail to the Quinsam Salmon Hatchery. Elk Falls Provincial Park is over 1,087 hectares in size including a day-use area and a campsite. The day use area has 2 parking lots – one adjacent to a viewpoint and the other with picnic tables, pit toilets, and an information shelter. This area also offers opportunities for picnicking on the rocks near the river. The 6 kilometre network of trails links the parking lots of Elk Falls Provincial Park. There is an adventure playground and sports field at the campground at this park as well. Viewing platforms are located at the day-use area near the falls, as well as along the Canyon View Trail. Elk Falls Provincial Park offers scenic views of the deep rock canyons and crashing, towering waterfalls. From the day use area there is a short maintained trail through the magnificent old growth Douglas Fir forest to the Elk, Moose and Deer Waterfalls, found along the Campbell River. Elk Falls is the biggest and is a visual treat as a 25 metre waterfall. Detailed trail maps are located at the day-use areas and in the campground. The Provincial Park has some amenities onsite like running fresh water taps, pit toilets and flush toilets, interpretive centre and a sani-station but does not have hot showers or electrical hook ups. How to get to Elk Falls Provincial ParkElk Falls Provincial Park day use area is located west of Campbell River, BC just a short 3 km drive from the campground on Hwy # 28. The Quinsam Campground at Elk Falls Provincial Park is located 3 km north of Campbell River on central Vancouver Island on Hwy 28 toward Gold River.
