Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park
Rathtrevor
Beach Provincial Park is a gem of a destination for embarking
on a long beach walk at low tide, enjoying stunning sulking sunsets or
taking back time relaxing, reading a book amongst lapping waves. Created
of rocks, sand and driftwood the popular beach is located near Parksville,
BC on Vancouver Island.
The
big draw of Rathtrevor Beach is the abundance of marine
wildlife especially seabirds, the wide open spaces at low tide and the
comfort in finding a private spot of sand to sit back and relax while
watching the tides reseed as far out as a kilometre. As you can imagine
the low tide frees up allot of sandy beach on a 2 kilometre wide beach!
Rathtrevor
Beach is a popular destination in every season. A beach made
for families, for soul searching beach walks, throwing a frisbee, photography
or just for relaxing. There is also a wooded area filled with walking,
tenting and RV campsites all close to the sandy beach and many amenities.
Onsite at Rathtrevor Beach are 5 parking
lots, a couple of picnic shelters for large gatherings, 150 individual
picnic tables, pit and flush toilets, an adventure playground, an outdoor
Amphitheatre and a Nature House. With this much to offer, you can imagine
how busy it can get at Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park
in some seasons.
Throughout
Rathtrevor Park is about 5 kilometre of, mostly, wheelchair
accessible hiking trails. The network of trails
inter-twines, back and forth, with the beach and the wooded forest area.
The forests of Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park includes
a family of trees like the Douglas Fir, Hemlock, Balsam, Western
Red Cedar, Spruce, Arbutus and Maple trees. And... magnificent
ocean views. The trail system is easily laid out for all to understand
at all information shelters at Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park.
The
Provincial Park is ideal for swimming when the tides
are low making it perfect for children of all ages to enjoy. The sun keeps
the sand so warm at low tide, that when the tides come back in the ocean
water becomes really warm as the sand heats it up.
The Rathtrevor Provincial
Park does not have a boat launch and all animals must be leashed
with some seasonal pet restrictions in the busy seasons applying. So leash
up.
