Parksville on central Vancouver Island in British Columbia is a mecca for white sandy beaches and recognized as one of the better selections of golf courses on the islands. Parksville is also near the eclectic village of Coombs in the Arrowsmith Country area. The Oceanside communities are also very popular for scuba diving, fishing, kayaking and caving. The Horne Lakes Provincial Park is a cavers dream with many caves to explore on a tour or self guided.

  1. Arrowsmith and Coombs Country: Arrowsmith Country is centred around an eclectic assortment of stores, attractions and a theme amusement park located in Coombs Village and surrounding area. The main centre of Coombs Village is an open court yard with shops on the outside rim mixed in among the ferris wheel, roller coaster, mini golf and merry-go-round, etc of the small amusement park.

  2. Beach Worshipping: Parksville is well known by the locals of Vancouver Island as having beautiful sandy beaches and on low tides leaving behind tidal pools filled with marine life. The long sandy beaches encourage the shovels and buckets to come out for sand castle building and long walks in the sea spray of the crashing waves under the moon and starlit skies. Rathetrevor Park and the Community Park are popular destinations.

  3. Ocean and River Fishing: Chinook, Chum, and Pink Salmon roam these coastal ocean waters mixed in among the Cod, Red Snapper, Halibut and seaweed. Rod and reel your way to some fresh water fishin' at Little Qualicum Falls for some Trout or one of the local lakes for the Char. Hook, line and sinker. It is as easy as that.

  4. Scuba Diving: Recognized as #1 'Best Value Dive Destination' by Rodale's Scuba Diving. Even Jacques Cousteau stated these waters were 2nd best in the world for cold water dives. The marine life around here is pretty amazing with visibility up to 100 ft. Preferred dive areas located off of Denman and Hornby Islands, Nanoose Bay and Madrona Point in Fairwinds.

  5. Ocean and Fresh Water Kayaking: Cameron Lake or Spider Lake for the fresh water kayaking experience or zip in and around the coastline while riding the Pacific Ocean with the soaring eagles and splashing seals enjoying the marine landscape and environment.

  6. Hiking and Walking: Walk the miles of beaches or venture out onto the forest trails of Mount Arrowsmith Park, Little Qualicum Falls Park, Horne Lake Regional Park or the trails and beaches of Rathetrevor Park. Vary the scenery to your liking. It is all here for your taking.

  7. Community Park: Smack dab in the middle of Parksville on the ocean is a large family oriented sandy beach. There is sand after sand to play in and clear oceans to swim in. Concessions, children's waterpark and playground. Plenty of picnic areas and public washrooms.
    Always a lot of activity here!

  8. Caving: Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park has self guided tours for the basic caving experience in the main and lower main caves. But to see the true wonders of the under world , propelling, and rock climbing the more complex caves you will need an experience guide and a good flash on your camera.

  9. Coombs Market: An eclectic assortment of trendy stores with charasmatic-laced store fronts.One with a roof top where goats live and graze on. The assortment of stores and the quality of goods is something of a flash back to the 1960's, with lots of vibrant colored clothing, hand made jewelry, and unique "I would never think of that" type gifts.
    Also a Fair offering children rides is on location.

  10. Golf: There are 5 golf courses in the Parksville - Parksville area. A fine assortment of challenging greens, deep roughs, elevated sand traps and luminous water hazards. Some courses are internationally recognized and locally cursed for handicap reasons.

  11. Mountain Biking: Top Bridge Mountain Bike Park is a mountain biker's wilderness trail, single-track riding dream. Challenge your skills while keeping your balance. Trails range from easy to extreme head rush!
