  1. Salmon Fishing: Start early with a fisherman's breakfast at the local restaurant, warm coffee in hand and head out in the morning mists to some of the best waters for salmon and halibut fishing. Local areas like Swiftsure Bank is a popular fishing ground with often very good results.

  2. West Coast Trail: From around the world they come, the adventure backpacking seekers, to experience this 74 kilometre rugged wilderness trail walking beaches, plugging through dense rainforest along boardwalk trails, navigating rocky shorelines, climbing ladders and crossing rivers. A thrill seekers dream come true with adventure and West Coast scenery rolled up into one.

  3. Juan de Fuca Marine Trail: Another long haul backpacking trail taking the adventure seeker exploring the shorelines of the West Coast along beaches, cliffs, dense rainforests for 47 kilometres. A smaller version of the West Coast Trail with some interesting twists.

  4. Trout Fishing: Head inland for backroad journey along the San Juan River through the forested valleys to Fairy Lake and Lizard Lake. A peaceful, private area prime for trout fishing.

  5. Botanical Beach: a 1 kilometre hike to Botanical Beach where a world of tide pools are on display. Massive stockpiles of driftwood, marine birds and solitude. Take the Botanical Loop Trail (2.4 kilometres) and visit Botany Bay and other private bays on your way to Botanical Beach. Check tide tables.

  6. Kayaking: Roll, paddle and play in your kayak in San Juan Bay before paddling the San Juan River where your attention will be captivated watching the wildlife play also in nature's rugged beautiful wilderness playground. Explore your way into Fairy Lake continuing onto Lizard Lake.

  7. Surfing: On a windy day the waves kick up a fuss at Jordan River where is meets the ocean or explore the 10 minute hike onto Sombrio Beach. Test your skill and surfing flair riding the West Coast experience.

  8. Whale Watching: Beaching whales winking an eye at a boat full of spectators. There are Humpbacks, Killer Whales and Gray Whales. Sure to see other marine wildlife like bears, cougars, Bald Eagles, blue herons, elk, sea otters, etc.

  9. San Juan Beach: Amazing miles of sandy beaches piled high in driftwood great for exploring and for the curious of heart. Excellent for long walks, beach combing or just sitting back and enjoying the views. Some beach camping in areas.
